In a significant move poised to accelerate the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies across Australia and New Zealand, Objective3D has announced a new strategic partnership with Nikon SLM Solutions. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for both companies and the broader manufacturing landscape in the region, bringing together Objective3D’s extensive local market presence and service bureau expertise with Nikon SLM’s world-leading metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology. The partnership will focus on delivering high-quality, production-grade metal AM solutions to key sectors, including manufacturing, medical, and education, enabling a new era of innovation and localised production.

This strategic alliance is a direct outcome of a recent merger between Objective3D and the TCL Group, which has successfully consolidated two of the region’s most experienced AM solutions providers. The merger unified resources and technical capabilities, creating a more robust and focused entity now poised for significant growth. As a result of this evolution, Objective3D has selected Nikon SLM Solutions as its new dedicated metal AM partner, replacing Colibrium Additive. This decision underscores a commitment to providing customers with the most advanced and reliable technologies available.

Matt Minio, Business Unit Manager at Objective3D, highlights the importance of this partnership as a logical next step following the merger. The combined expertise and resources of the unified company, now operating under the Objective3D banner, create a powerful platform to introduce production-grade metal AM solutions to the market. Elias Baini, general manager of Objective3D, added that Nikon SLM’s Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology has already demonstrated its value within the Australian research and academic communities under the previous TCL Hofmann banner. The partnership’s primary goal is to now translate that success into the commercial sector, helping manufacturers and medical innovators harness scalable metal AM solutions to overcome traditional manufacturing constraints.

The benefits of metal additive manufacturing are substantial and increasingly critical for modern industry. Unlike traditional subtractive manufacturing methods, which carve away material from a solid block, metal AM builds parts layer by layer from a metallic powder. This process, particularly the LPBF technology pioneered by companies like Nikon SLM, offers unparalleled design freedom. Engineers can create intricate, complex geometries, lattice structures, and consolidated parts that are lighter, stronger, and more efficient. This technology is a game-changer for industries such as aerospace, where lightweight components are essential for fuel efficiency, and in the medical field, where patient-specific implants and prosthetics can be designed with exceptional precision. The ability to produce parts with minimal waste and without the need for expensive tooling also significantly reduces lead times and costs, making low-volume, highly customised production economically viable.

What sets Objective3D apart as a partner is its unique position as both a supplier and an active user of the technology it sells. With one of Australia’s largest 3D printing service bureaus, Objective3D is a “practitioner,” not just a reseller. This hands-on experience provides them with invaluable insights into the real-world applications and challenges of metal AM. William Li, territory manager for ANZ at Nikon SLM, praised this approach, noting that it provides a critical advantage for customers who can trust that Objective3D’s recommendations are based on practical, proven experience. The partnership ensures that Objective3D will offer a complete suite of services, including sales, application support, installation, and post-sales services for all Nikon SLM systems. Furthermore, the company is committed to educating the local market on best practices for implementing and scaling metal AM within their own operations.

This collaboration is also a key component of Objective3D’s long-term strategy to support the growing demand for localised manufacturing. In a world of complex and often fragile global supply chains, the ability to manufacture high-quality, high-performance metal components locally is becoming a strategic imperative for many Australian businesses. By empowering local manufacturers with Nikon SLM’s industrial-grade systems, the partnership directly contributes to strengthening Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capabilities. The systems, known for their speed, repeatability, and industrial quality, are precisely what the market needs to move beyond prototyping and into full-scale production.

In conclusion, the partnership between Objective3D and Nikon SLM Solutions represents a powerful fusion of local expertise and global technological leadership. It is an investment in the future of Australian manufacturing, promising to unlock new possibilities for innovation, efficiency, and competitiveness across a wide range of industries. With a focus on providing not just machines, but comprehensive solutions and support, Objective3D is well-positioned to help its customers embrace the full potential of metal additive manufacturing and drive significant growth in the years to come. For companies looking to explore this transformative technology, this partnership offers a clear pathway to success, backed by a team that truly understands the practicalities of advanced manufacturing.
