The Applied Science & Technology Research Organization of America (ASTRO America) has partnered with Florida State University (FSU) to launch the Institute for Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, Research, and Education (InSPIRE), a cutting-edge aerospace and defense manufacturing center in Northwest Florida. ASTRO America will play a key role in designing the facility’s equipment layout, managing industry and government collaborations, and prioritizing research to boost U.S. industrial productivity, national security, and economic growth.
InSPIRE will offer a unique, end-to-end production environment with advanced facilities, including a supersonic-to-hypersonic wind tunnel, enabling in-situ testing and evaluation. The center will provide flexible manufacturing cells, materials testing labs, and hands-on learning spaces, fostering innovation and preparing a skilled workforce.
This collaboration also aligns with ASTRO America’s decision to establish the headquarters of its Additive Manufacturing Forward (AM Forward) program in Panama City, Florida. Launched in 2022 by ASTRO America President Neal Orringer and President Biden, AM Forward is focused on enhancing supply chain resilience through advanced manufacturing.
According to Farrukh S. Alvi, Executive Director of InSPIRE, the partnership will generate transformative opportunities for students, faculty, and industry stakeholders, helping to pioneer advanced manufacturing capabilities that will drive regional growth and innovation.
