Wipro 3D, the additive manufacturing (AM) business of Wipro has been awarded a Lloyd’s Register Certification for Additive Manufacturing (AM) quality. The certification is in accordance with the requirements of the LR-TWI Guidance Notes for theCertification of Metallic Parts made by Additive Manufacturing (2017).
Lloyd’s Register has assessed and qualified Wipro 3D’s Banglaore metal additive manufacturing facility where additive consulting, design, production and R&D services are performed. The assessment was made against requirements that included: design data development & control; additive manufacturing process & build control; and the reception, storage & handling of feedstock (utilising titanium alloys, aluminium alloys, cobalt chrome alloys, nickel alloys and stainless steels) for Wipro 3D’s powder bed fusion facility. Wipro 3D is the first Indian metal AM facility to be awarded Lloyd’s Register’s AM facility qualification and only the sixth globally.
Earlier this year, the companies approach to world class quality was substantiated again by a recertification /surveillance audit by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), recognising the organisational processes and quality management system followed for the manufacturing and assembly of components using additive technology for aerospace and industrial applications (AS 9100 Rev D).
Wipro 3D is in the process of achieving further certification and is currently being assessed by leading global aerospace majors for a host of metal AM competencies and services.
Mr. Ajay Parikh, Vice President and Business Head, Wipro 3D, said: “We stand out in our approach to quality. Metal AM is a growing industry with evolving methods, standards and quality benchmarks. To compete globally, Wipro 3D has developed its own “best-of-breed” Additive manufacturing and quality system that is able to meet or exceed the exacting demands of current global quality frameworks such as that from Lloyd’s Register.
Shrikant Aradhey, Head of Operations for India, Middle East and Africa – Inspection Services at Lloyd’s Register said: “We provide indepent certification and verification services to help businesses improve safety and quality within their processes. This certification which follows extensive auditing, opens up many possibilities using AM as a manufacturing technology. We congratulate Wipro 3D with this success and look forward to a continued long term partnership.”
Mr Parikh added: “Our constant benchmarking with emerging and leading AM methods frameworks and standards, informs our entire approach to Additive Design , Engineering and Manufacturing. This not only ensures continuous growth of customer confidence in our metal AM offerings, but also differentiates Wipro 3D into becoming a metal AM solution provider of choice to industry-leading organisations.”
