Ukraine receives 3D printers from US that can print parts for military equipment

Ukraine received industrial-level 3D printers from the USA, capable of printing spare parts for equipment on the battlefield. This was reported by US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Procurement and Sustainment William Laplante, reports “Voice of America”.

According to the official, Ukrainians completed training on using these printers last week. “Finally, last month we delivered them, in Ukraine, these industrial 3D printers, and last week their training in working with this printer was completed… They can print all their parts on it”, – said Laplante.

The advent of these printers, he says, is a “game changer” because they speed up the process and open up new possibilities.

“You can do amazing things with 3D printing, not just because of speed. You can actually make parts that you couldn’t make under normal conditions,”, – noted Laplante.

The assistant head of the Pentagon also reported that after the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukrainians began to independently print 3D spare parts, although they did not have the appropriate permits for this. Allies helped Ukraine in this situation. “In the beginning, Ukrainians printed their own 3D parts without having technical data packages. You know what they say, when your country is under existential attack, intellectual property laws only matter a little. Well, we put it in order, together with other countries. Now they have all the technical data packages”, – said Laplante.
