Additive manufacturer Titomic has won an order from aircraft maker Airbus Group to supply cold spray additive manufacturing, repairs and maintenance equipment.
The cold spray additive manufacturing process – also known as cold spray 3D printing – will allow Airbus to fabricate freestanding parts or to build features on to existing aircraft components,
The $645,000 contract sees cold spray systems for unique coatings and repairs installed on Airbus’ sites, while another system will be installed at Titomic’s European facility.
Titomic said the systems will facilitate the development of aerospace applications tailored to Airbus’ specific needs, with the company stating that cold spray processes provide less risk to aerospace components during repairs.
It added that one outcome of this agreement is the inclusion of Titomic’s equipment within Airbus’ own maintenance protocols. As a result, all of Airbus’ maintenance facilities that plan to use cold spray applications will be required to use Titomic equipment and technology to ensure consistency across all facilities.
“This is a significant development for us at Titomic and we are excited to embark on this strategic partnership with Airbus, further expanding our presence in the aerospace sector,” Titomic managing director Herbert Koeck said.
“This collaboration not only strengthens Titomic position as the global leader in cold spray technology, but also highlights the company’s commitment to providing cutting edge solutions to the aerospace industry.
“With demanding regulations and requirement, the aerospace market is difficult to enter. We are grateful to Airbus, our investors, and suppliers for supporting us in reaching this important milestone.”
