Titomic Limited, headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, has announced a major breakthrough with the development of the Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing Specification, AMS 7057, in collaboration with SAE International. This achievement represents a key milestone for the standardization and commercialization of Cold Spray technology, particularly in aerospace and defense industries.

The project began in February 2023, leveraging Titomic’s sponsorship, technical expertise, and proprietary Kinetic Fusion technology. Over the course of development, rigorous testing of materials was conducted, ensuring the specification met the stringent requirements of highly regulated industries. This standard establishes a global benchmark for Cold Spray additive manufacturing, providing industries with a recognized and validated process for both manufacturing and repair applications.

Transforming Cold Spray Adoption in Regulated Sectors

AMS 7057’s implementation is a significant step in fostering the adoption of Cold Spray technology in sectors such as aerospace, defense, and energy. Certification processes, a critical barrier in these industries, will now be greatly streamlined. By offering a pre-established framework, AMS 7057 simplifies compliance, allowing organizations to integrate Titomic Kinetic Fusion into their operations with greater confidence and efficiency.

With this development, Titomic is actively engaging with aircraft manufacturers and making strides with additional aerospace and defense clients. The company sees the new standard as a foundation for expanding U.S. government support and investment opportunities. The Office of Strategic Capital is already considering Cold Spray as part of its broader mission to bolster domestic supply chains and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Enabling U.S. Government Initiatives

Jim Simpson, President of Titomic USA, emphasized the significance of AMS 7057 compliance in opening doors for government contracts and initiatives. These include:

  • Department of Defense (DoD): For military asset repairs.
  • NASA Programs: Focused on lightweight aerospace components.
  • Office of Strategic Capital: Strengthening domestic supply chains through advanced manufacturing technologies.

The new specification aligns seamlessly with U.S. goals to foster innovation and reestablish manufacturing leadership in strategic industries.

The Value of Cold Spray Technology

Cold Spray technology uses a process that deposits materials in a solid state, layer by layer, enabling applications such as:

  1. Repairing and restoring parts: Ideal for damaged aerospace and defense components.
  2. Advanced manufacturing: Producing lightweight and durable components for high-performance applications.
  3. Sustainability: The process minimizes waste and energy consumption compared to traditional methods.

Titomic’s proprietary Kinetic Fusion technology takes this a step further, combining high-performance materials with unique manufacturing capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Global and Commercial Impact

Beyond regulated sectors, the standardization of Cold Spray opens up commercial opportunities. Industries can now rely on a validated manufacturing process for demanding applications, from aerospace turbine blades to complex defense systems. With a clear specification in place, Titomic is better positioned to strengthen its partnerships and attract investment from stakeholders seeking innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable manufacturing solutions.

Looking Ahead

AMS 7057 is expected to catalyze the next wave of Cold Spray adoption worldwide. Titomic’s leadership in this space ensures it will play a pivotal role in driving technological advancements and transforming industries through the power of additive manufacturing.

For more information, the Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing Specification, AMS 7057, is available on the SAE International website.
