Stryker’s new R&D facility in India showcases the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability in medical technology. With a focus on additive manufacturing and leveraging Indian talent, Stryker is at the forefront of driving global healthcare solutions.

Stryker, a global leader in medical technology, has recently inaugurated a new research and development (R&D) facility in India, marking a significant expansion of its innovation footprint. This state-of-the-art 55,600-square-foot lab, designed to enhance product quality and drive innovation, is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, including advanced microbiology capabilities and dedicated teams focused on pioneering medical technologies. Vice President Ram Rangarajan highlighted the strategic role of this facility in leveraging Indian innovation to meet global healthcare challenges.

Commitment to Innovation and Quality

The new facility boasts an array of advanced technologies, including plastic 3D printing and metal machining, underscoring Stryker’s commitment to additive manufacturing (AM) as a cornerstone of its growth strategy. Since 2013, the company has successfully 3D printed over 2 million Tritanium implants, emphasizing the role of AM in enhancing product sustainability and efficiency. The lab’s comprehensive testing capabilities are set to support prototyping and ensure product assurance across all of Stryker’s product lines, from cementless knee replacements to other critical medical devices.

Leveraging Indian Talent for Global Solutions

Ram Rangarajan, Vice President of Stryker Global Technology Center, India, has articulated the company’s strategy to invest in Indian innovation, recognizing the country’s potential to contribute to global healthcare solutions. The facility’s inauguration is a testament to Stryker’s confidence in India’s talent pool and its ability to adhere to stringent regulatory standards while fostering innovation. This move is part of Stryker’s broader strategy to build a sustainable and innovative product portfolio that addresses the evolving needs of patients worldwide.

Expanding Global Presence and Sustainability Efforts

Aside from its innovation in additive manufacturing, Stryker has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability, conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to highlight the environmental benefits of AM over traditional subtractive manufacturing methods. This focus on sustainable design and manufacturing practices is integral to Stryker’s mission to make healthcare better while minimizing environmental impact. The expansion of its R&D capabilities in India with the new facility further solidifies Stryker’s position as a leader in medical technology innovation and global sustainability efforts.

The inauguration of Stryker’s new R&D facility in India marks a pivotal moment in the company’s global strategy, emphasizing its commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability. By harnessing the power of additive manufacturing and leveraging the talent in India, Stryker is poised to develop cutting-edge medical technologies that improve patient outcomes and meet the challenges of healthcare in the 21st century. This strategic investment highlights the critical role of R&D in driving the future of medical technology, showcasing Stryker’s dedication to leading the industry forward.
