Today, SP3D and NCAM signed a cooperation agreement that will lead both organizations to work closely to enable adoption of digitalization of inventory for companies using additive manufacturing technologies in India.
SP3D, the leading French startup in software for additive manufacturing brings its expertise on part identification, digital inventory, and digital passport creation; NCAM, is established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India and ITE&C Department, Govt. of Telangana in partnership with industry to develop a comprehensive Additive Manufacturing ecosystem in the country and position India as a Global AM Manufacturing Hub.
Today, Indian industries (e.g., from Mining, Energy, Agribusiness, petrochemicals, heavy engineering, etc.) are faced with significant issues when dealing with spare parts supply chain for maintenance of industrial assets such as long lead time, supply chain disruption, part obsolescence etc. They either need to stock massive quantities of parts or encounter long lead time to import parts; thus, they expose themselves to high inventory cost or costly equipment downtime by waiting for parts that are not sourced locally.
“The digitalization of inventory can bring about a shift not just in traditional inventory management but also how organizations approach production, maintenance, and supply chain resilience”, said Shri Jaspreet Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer at NCAM.
By identifying the right parts for additive manufacturing, those companies can help relocate part production in the country, much closer to where the parts are needed, with reduced lead time and subsequent reduced carbon footprint.
“With this partnership, industrial asset operators will be able to determine what potential value additive manufacturing can bring to their organization and supply chain operations. They will also be able to start the journey to additive manufacturing digitalization, 3D print parts and have those parts validated and qualified”, said Paul de Misouard, co-founder and Chief Engineer of Spare Parts 3D
This partnership will facilitate access to digitization and to additive manufacturing to a growing number of Indian organizations by showcasing its value creation for each organization.
This cooperation will eventually lead to:
1) Reduction in the manufacturing carbon footprint thanks to the increase of localized part production.
2) Development and training of the technical and engineering community to develop skills linked to additive manufacturing (identification of suitable case and their qualification for AM).
3) Consolidation of additive manufacturing value chain and uplift the Indian AM ecosystem from raw material suppliers to machine manufacturers and service providers.
