Prosilas s.r.l, a major European 3D printing service provider based in Italy, has been acquired by Prototal Industries, a leader of additive manufacturing and injection molding for polymeric materials in the Nordic region. The acquisition will strengthen Prototal’s operations in Europe and provide existing Prosilas customers with additional manufacturing service capabilities. Through the acquisition of Prosilas, Prototal will have one of the largest capacities in Europe for additive manufacturing.

Headquartered in the province of Macerata in Italy, Prosilas was founded in 2003 and for nearly two decades has provided expert additive manufacturing services to the European market. The company provides end-to-end services, from design support and optimization, to prototyping, to series production and post-processing. Prosilas’ main specialty is in SLS 3D printing, and it holds quality certifications including ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO / IEC 27001 for cyber security and ISO 14001:2015.

The company has experienced notable growth since 2016, adding industrial AM systems to its machine park and implementing sophisticated solutions, such as automated material management systems, MES software and quality solutions. In recent years, Prosilas has been interested in forging an industrial partnership with the aim of expanding its reach and its customer base across the European continent.

“Between 2019 and 2021, we had several interesting proposals but none had the winning characteristics we were looking for,” said Vanna Menco, CEO and Director of Prosilas. “In January 2021, we got in touch with the Prototal Group and an excellent feeling was immediately established. Even then, I felt that this partnership could be a winner for Prosilas. Our visions were aligned and they have a really good team with whom we collaborate in a very natural and dynamic way.”

Prototal, for its part, boasts an annual turnover of around 50 million euros and an expert team of over 200 employees at seven locations. The company has been expanding beyond the Nordic region in recent years, first with the acquisition of UK-based 3T Additive Manufacturing’s polymer AM service business and now with the Prosilas acquisition.

Through the agreement officially finalized on November 15th, 2021, Prototal Industries has acquired 100% stake in Prosilas. Going forward, Vanna Menco will remain as CEO and Director of Prosilas. Giulio Menco, Founder of Prosilas and father of Vanna, will retain his role as technical consultant, specializing in experimental and R&D fields. Prosilas’ existing team members will also stay on as part of the acquisition agreement.

“It is with pride that we welcome Prosilas to our group,” added Jan Löfving, CEO of Prototal. “Additive manufacturing is a market that is constantly growing and developing and Prototal has made a number of acquisitions to consolidate its position and expand its offering. Prosilas has been at the forefront of this market for almost twenty years and they fit very well into the Group, which will benefit all our customers. The acquisition should be seen as a clear signal to the market about Prototal’s intention to actively develop additive manufacturing in Italy and other markets in Europe.”
