Dubai, a city synonymous with architectural marvels, is once again pushing the boundaries of innovation. Proto21 3D Printing LLC, in collaboration with MYATA Platinum, is currently in the process of attempting to break the Guinness World Records™ title for the World’s Largest 3D Printed Structure (Volume) right here in the UAE. This ambitious project, centered around the creation of the MYATA Platinum restaurant, is poised to redefine luxury interiors and showcase the immense potential of 3D printing.

Dubai has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology, boasting some of the most iconic skyscrapers and structures in the world. This project is yet another testament to the city’s commitment to pushing the boundaries. From the Burj Khalifa to the Palm Jumeirah, each architectural achievement tells a story of ambition and creativity. The MYATA Platinum restaurant is set to join this prestigious list, not only as a dining destination but as a symbol of what the future holds for construction and design.

The immersive experience is designed to engage all senses, with a menu that reflects the innovation behind the building’s creation. Diners will not only enjoy culinary masterpieces but also be enveloped in an environment that stimulates creativity and conversation. Each 3D-printed element contributes to a narrative, inviting guests to explore the fusion of technology and art. The choice of materials and design elements is intentional, aiming to create a unique atmosphere that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

More than just a restaurant, MYATA Platinum is envisioned as an immersive experience, a testament to the future of hospitality. The project features 23 expansive, canyon-inspired 3D-printed structures that will form the restaurant’s interior and exterior facades, as well as VIP rooms, caves, counters, and planters. These structures are meticulously crafted with sand-textured finishes, blending cutting-edge technology with the natural, organic aesthetics of rock formations.

Arkam’s vision reflects a broader trend in the industry where innovative technologies are becoming mainstream. As the world embraces sustainability and efficiency, 3D printing emerges as a solution that reduces waste and optimizes resources. This project illustrates how the hospitality industry can adapt to and incorporate these advancements for a better future.

This inspiration led to many brainstorming sessions where the design team explored various natural landscapes, ultimately deciding on the canyon theme as it embodies both beauty and resilience. The final design is not just visually stunning but also functionally sound, providing comfortable spaces that enhance the dining experience.

“We are in the process of attempting to achieve a world record in the 3D Printing Industry! This will be not only a milestone in Proto21’s growth but also an important milestone in the evolution of 3D printing technology,” says Arkam, the CEO of Proto21.

Proto21 is not just changing the landscape of the restaurant industry; they are setting a precedent for future architectural projects. By integrating 3D printing into hospitality, they are demonstrating how technology can transform environments, making them more adaptable and responsive to the needs of users.

A Vision Inspired by Nature

The design of MYATA Platinum draws inspiration from the dynamic topography of sand canyons. 3D designers at Proto21 used Blender to painstakingly apply unique sedimentary designs to each surface, ensuring that no two pieces are alike. This manual process, eschewing automation, mirrors the natural world, where rivers carve valleys and wind sculpts mountains.

This area covers multiple floors and intricate designs, showcasing the versatility of 3D printing. The capability to create such expansive and detailed structures is a game-changer in architecture.

Such a volume allows for creative layouts that traditional construction methods may struggle to achieve, enabling architects to push the boundaries of what is possible.

The individual parts each tell a story, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Proto21 prides itself on. This emphasizes the uniqueness of each element, making every visit to MYATA Platinum a new experience.

The extensive use of 3D printers highlights the efficiency and speed that modern technology offers. This approach allows for rapid prototyping and adjustments, ensuring that the final product meets the highest standards.

Proto21: Redefining 3D Printing in Hospitality

The challenges faced during procurement reflect the growing demand for 3D printing materials in the region. It emphasizes the need for suppliers to adapt to this new market trend and ensure they can meet the demands of future projects.

Proto21’s holistic approach ensures that every aspect of the project is carefully considered, creating a seamless experience from conception to realization. This landmark project will not only enhance Dubai’s reputation as a global hub for innovation but also inspire other cities and businesses to explore the possibilities that 3D printing offers. To truly grasp the magnitude of this project, consider these figures:

  • 1,190 square meters of 3D-printed area.
  • 38 cubic meters of 3D-printed volume.
  • 21,700+ individual 3D-printed parts.
  • 158 3D printers used to complete the project.
  • 160,000+ hours of 3D printing.
  • 10.2 tons of 3D-printed material consumed.

“Our initial estimations of time and scale went wrong, ofcourse! We ran short of timelines, 3D Printers and materials… I called every supplier in the UAE and purchased all the stock of materials & machines available in the country to meet the demands of this project,” reveals Arkam, the Founder & CEO of Proto21.

Proto21’s comprehensive scope of work encompassed 3D design, structural calculations, 3D printing, assembly, finishing, painting, and on-site installation, showcasing their ability to provide a complete turnkey solution. The project, which took over six months to complete, pushed the limits of additive manufacturing, utilizing FDM, SLA, and LfAM technologies across a vast 3D printing farm.

The demand for 3D printing filaments was so intense that suppliers had to prioritize Proto21’s orders, temporarily pausing other projects. PLA and PETG were primarily used for interior elements, while PPGF (Polypropylene Glass Fiber) was chosen for the exterior facades to withstand the UAE’s extreme temperatures.

“92% of the pieces are unique, which means almost no repeats. It’s not something you can achieve with traditional manufacturing,” explains Pir Arkam.

The restaurant’s entrance is designed as a funnel, drawing visitors inward with an almost gravitational pull. From the outside, the interior remains hidden, creating an air of mystery and anticipation.

As the world watches, Dubai is poised to add another remarkable achievement to its architectural legacy. The successful completion of MYATA Platinum will not only set a new Guinness World Record but also serve as a groundbreaking example of the transformative power of 3D printing in the world of architecture and design.
