nScrypt announces the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 11,230,054. The ‘054 patent, entitled “Active Valve for Mixing and Dispensing Control,” covers a valve and system for precisely controlled feeding, mixing, and dispensing materials through a pentip for 3D printing.
The patented valve has the ability to mix and dispense a wide range of materials, from low viscosity to high viscosity, including particle-loaded materials, in real-time or near real-time, with clean starts and stops. The valve can be used to print (or dispense) in two or three dimensions.
Dr. Ken Church, nScrypt CEO and the inventor behind this patent, emphasizes the valve’s versatility and how it can potentially impact the 3D manufacturing industry, particularly in medical and biological applications.
“This groundbreaking valve is designed to revolutionize the 3D printing landscape by seamlessly accommodating multiple materials across a diverse range of applications, particularly in the realms of medical and biological innovation. Beyond its remarkable capability to expertly blend an extensive array of materials it introduces unparalleled ease and precision during the 3D printing process. By eliminating the need for interruptions to swap materials or relocate printed structures between heated beds, even when dealing with varied heating requirements, it ensures a seamless workflow. The valve prints with very clean starts and stops, with no drooling of the mixed material. This level of precision proves indispensable for intricate applications, providing a significant leap forward in fine-feature and high-resolutions prints.”
nScrypt patents are available for licensing under mutually favorable terms. On this point, Dr. Church says:
We want to see 3D manufacturing and printed electronics move forward as an industry, with innovation lifting all boats, without patents getting in the way.
