MolyWorks Materials Corporation is expanding its global footprint by placing the next manufacturing and R&D foundry in Singapore to support the production of lowcarbon metal powders and development of new alloys.

Founded in 2015, MolyWorks Materials Corporation has developed a patented compact recycling foundry and technology that upcycles waste metals as feedstock for high purity and sustainable AM grade powders. To date, more than 25 different alloys have been successfully upcycled.

“MolyWorks is very pleased to locate our unique metals upcycling foundry in Singapore to provide the first source of sustainable metal powders to local businesses and across the region. We have seen strong interest and support from metal powder consumers and from Singapore Government, and we anticipate that this new local capability will play an increasing role over time in reducing carbon and improving the sustainability of metal parts production in the country, whilst reducing metals waste” said Phil Ward, CEO MolyWorks.

MolyWorks is accelerating its global expansion rapidly, including into Asia-Pacific (“APAC”) by locating a foundry and technical team in Singapore, where the company receives strong support from Government and Industry, and there is strong emphasis for environmental sustainability.

“MolyWorks’ move to use Singapore as a place to ramp up production of sustainable metal powders for the region demonstrates how businesses can pair growth goals with green objectives. We are excited about the new foundry’s role in partnering our local additive manufacturing ecosystem to develop green metal alloys for industrial use. It is timely as the manufacturing sector evolves to adopt more sustainable practices,” said Lionel Lim, Vice President, Technology Hardware and Equipment, Singapore Economic Development Board (“EDB”).

The Singapore foundry will serve as the APAC R&D and Production Hub and offers a wide range of metal powders, including custom alloys / small batches for R&D and high volume for large-scale industrial production. The facility is fully equipped with the state-of-the-art laboratory to support powder characterization and testing services.

“Most metal powders used in additive manufacturing today are imported from overseas. By setting up its first-of-its-kind additive manufacturing facility in Singapore located at JTC Space, we believe MolyWorks can reduce the lead time for metal powders and catalyse the growth of the local advanced manufacturing industry here. MolyWorks also recycles waste metals into high quality metal powders, contributing further to sustainable manufacturing.” said Cheang Tick Kei, Director, Precision Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Cluster, JTC.

“Beyond green energy and adopting more efficient designs with less material waste, our manufacturing community will need to adopt more sustainable ways in the way we source and produce. The use of industrial grade metal powder feedstock in additive manufacturing processes, produced by Molyworks’ proprietary compact recycling foundry, will be a key enabler to achieving circularity in production and contribute to Singapore’s environment sustainability goals.” said Dr Ho Chaw Sing, CEO National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (“NAMIC”).
