INTAMSYS presents new version of FUNMAT 3D printer

INTAMSYS, a Shanghai-based manufacturer of 3D printers, has unveiled the latest version of its FUNMAT 3D printer for high-performance functional materials, the Enhanced FUNMAT HT.Designed for industrial-grade polymers, i.e., PEEK, PEKK, ULTEM, and PPSU, the Enhanced FUNMAT HT 3D printer features a new automatic-leveling process, a removable, magnetic glass-ceramic build plate, and four individual drivers for filament loading, print precision, speed & reliability.

INTAMSYS engineers designed these features to enable the safe and easy manufacturing of such materials for functional and quality parts.

The FUNMAT 3D printer

The FUNMAT (Functional Material) series of industrial-grade (FFF) 3D printers have provided engineers with a solution to processing PEEK and high-performance functional materials. PEEK, in particular, is a challenging material to process using additive manufacturing, due to its high melting temperature of 343°C (according to the ISO 11357 test method). In order to reap its mechanical properties, which can be compared with metals, a controlled 3D printing environment must be achieved.

At Formnext 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany, INTAMSYS’ FUNMAT HT 3D printer was praised for its high-performance functional material printing capabilities with this material as well as ULTEM (PEI) and carbon fiber composites. Following this, at Formnext 2018, INTAMSYS introduced the FUNMAT PRO 410 with new PEKK and PEEK-CF filaments.

An advanced thermal system is integrated within the FUNMAT systems. This heats the 3D printer’s chamber at a constant temperature of 90°C, the build plate at 160°C, and the extruder at 450°C. This system is also present in the Enhanced FUNMAT HT.

Enhanced FFF 3D printing

The Enhanced FUNMAT HT has a build volume of 260 x 260 x 260 mm and offers a 50-micron resolution. This system also includes four high-performance independent drivers to ensure precise, high-speed printing and equipment reliability.

The defining feature also lies in the glass-ceramic build plate, which enables a higher heating efficiency and less thermal deformation of filaments. Additionally, the magnetic releases of the build plate allow ease of use.

INTAMSYS engineers have also designed an innovative automatic leveling process with a sensor to detect the build plate. The controller applies an algorithm to compensate for the build plate position during the printing process. The process can also work very well even in high-temperature materials printing. It makes the printer very easy to use and can enable customers to only focus on their discipline, and not on printer tweaking.
