‘Online’ launch of “National Strategy on Additive Manufacturing” by Hon’ble Minister for Electronics and Information Technology on 24th February, 2022
Additive manufacturing (AM) embraces innovation in digital processes, communications, imaging, architecture and engineering to provide digital flexibility and efficiency in manufacturing operations. The computer-aided-design software data is used directly to the hardware to deposit material layer upon layer in precise geometric shapes to develop the products. The AM market grew rapidly and expected to reach at US$ 35.6 billion by 2023. A strategic effort is needed to develop indigenous technological capabilities to leverage the potential opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and a collective focus on AM can immensely augment India’s efforts to position itself as the Manufacturing Hub of the world. An integrated approach to embrace AM in all segments, including defence and public sectors, is required to keep pace with rapid global manufacturing prowess.
A “National Strategy on Additive Manufacturing (NSAM)” has been evolved to mitigate immediate disabilities of the local industries to embrace digital technologies and to cater nation’s aspiration of Manufacturing Value addition to US$ 1 Trillion per annum. NSAM has identified key areas, where innovation and R&D ecosystem would be created in PPP mode to transform existing R&D knowledgebase to develop AM grade materials, 3D printer machines and printed indigenous products for vast domestic and international market. NSAM aspires to postulate the tenets of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ that advocate self-reliance through technological transformation of the production paradigm with participation of State Governments, academia, industry and other stakeholders. This will be realized through a dedicated National Centre which will act as an aggregator of knowledge, resources to accelerate technology adoption and advancement. Besides, sector specific Centres to develop indigenous AM technology to overcome the challenges posed by global peers.
This Strategy document is going to be launched by Hon’ble Minister for Electronics and Information Technology on 24thFebruary 2022 (1800 hrs to 1900 hrs) at MeitY, New Delhi, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
