igus Launched New SLS Material for Chemical and Wear Resistance

New iglide powder material from igus is aimed at laser sintering of food-grade components that are self-lubricating, resilient, and resistant to a range of chemicals.

The latest 3D-printing material from igus is iglide i10, a powder for selective laser sintering (SLS) that is self-lubricating for wear resistance in moving mechanical components, and is also resistant to acids, bases, alcohols, greases and oils. The material also is said to be certified as meeting FDA specifications and EU Regulation 10/2011 for food contact. It is therefore suited to applications such as electroplating and food processing, according to igus.

What’s more, iglide i10 boasts high ductility and low moisture absorption, suiting it to functional industrial components with elastic properties.

igus will also offer the new material in its in-house custom 3D printing service. Customers can upload a STEP file online with a 3D model of the desired component and select the quantity and printing material. igus will then manufacture the custom components.

About the company 

igus is a manufacturer of technical products made of high-performance plastics. This includes, plastic plain bearings, flexible cables, energy chains, connectors, robotic components, 3D-printed products and ball bearings. The products are designed to eliminate maintenance, reduce costs and prolong the service life of machines and applications. To ensure that all igus products meet these criteria, various and continuous tests are conducted on each product in the 3,800 m2 (41,000 sq ft) test laboratory; approximately 15,000 tests are conducted each year. The company has its headquarters in Germany.
