A leading Polish manufacturer of 3D printing filaments has expanded the range of its materials. FiberSmooth is a proposal that allows you to have prints with an almost perfectly smooth finish.
FiberSmooth is the trade name for polyvinyl butyral, which may be better known to 3D printing enthusiasts as PVB. This polymer is valued for its ease of processing by treating it with isopropyl alcohol (IPA). As a result of an alcohol “bath” or in IPA vapors, the outer perimeters dissolve, creating a solid structure and blurring the boundaries between the layers. This creates a smooth, glossy surface that gains strength when completely dry.
PVB filaments, like FiberSmooth, can be classified rather as products with aesthetic and hobby values than technical ones. They resemble PLA with their properties and are also easy to print. Therefore, this material should appeal to all printers. It is perfect for the production of decorative elements, figurines, ornaments (including Christmas ones), ready-made products, etc.
FiberSmooth at its premiere was available in 5 colors: black, graphite, gray, red and blue. Fiberlogy will be systematically adding new colors, including a pure version, which makes it possible to have an almost perfectly transparent 3D print.
FiberSmooth filament is available for sale through a network of resellers, the list of which is available on the manufacturer’s website.
