Polymer PBF market leader EOS is set to debut its latest polymer additive manufacturing (AM) technology at the upcoming Formnext event. Industry observers expect this reveal to potentially introduce the first machine powered by the much-anticipated LaserProFusion technology, marking a transformative moment in polymer 3D printing.
This innovative solution is designed to set new standards for productivity and cost-effectiveness, aiming to address user demands and industry challenges. EOS highlights that the new system will deliver “top-quality results from the very first print,” eliminating the typical trial and error often seen in 3D printing projects.
Beyond being a machine, this new system represents an end-to-end production ecosystem tailored to streamline the entire 3D printing workflow, enhancing efficiency and affordability for both seasoned professionals and newcomers to polymer additive manufacturing.
The LaserProFusion technology concept, introduced by EOS in 2018, features nearly one million diode lasers working simultaneously to melt each layer of material. With productivity comparable to traditional injection molding, this technology is set to transform complex, customized, and short-run production needs.
LaserProFusion’s million diode lasers are precisely managed according to CAD data, offering exact pixel-level accuracy. Achieving a combined output of up to 5 kilowatts, the system significantly reduces exposure times per layer, regardless of part geometry or quantity, making it a viable alternative to traditional injection molding.
At the time of its initial introduction, EOS CTO Dr. Tobias Abeln commented, “With LaserProFusion, we reach a new level of productivity in polymer industrial 3D printing for serial manufacturing, enabling tool-free injection molding and opening new industrial markets.”
EOS has continued to refine and invest in this technology over the past six years, building anticipation that a LaserProFusion-powered machine is close to market-ready. The official unveiling of this polymer AM system will take place on November 19th at 11 AM at Formnext, where attendees can experience this potential game-changer firsthand. EOS invites all industry professionals to join and explore the next generation of 3D printing.
