Conflux Technology, an industry-leader in metal additive manufactured (AM) heat transfer technology, is in serial production for AMCM, a renowned powerhouse in metal 3D printing machines. The gas-liquid heat exchanger is central to the upgraded thermal management system in the AMCM M 4K machine.
The Conflux heat exchanger reduced argon gas temperature by several degrees Celsius throughout a build job enabling the M 4K to operate at a high efficiency with longer build times and high-speed processing, elements necessary for large build volumes of demanding materials like copper.
“Bringing our heat exchanger expertise to the additive manufacturing machine tool industry has been a long-held ambition of mine and is now realized with the successful adaptation of our Conflux Core™ technology into AMCM’s premier platform,” said Michael Fuller, CEO of Conflux Technology. “Scaling our business throughout the broader industrial machine sector with our highly efficient heat transfer technology through compelling business cases and uncompromised quality is a key focus for our team.”
AMCM selected Conflux for their ability to design and print a monolithic heat exchanger that met their pressure-drop and temperature targets. The gas heat exchanger not only met but also exceeded their requirements, delivering improved heat transfer while occupying only 7% of the packaging volume and reducing pressure drop.
Due to the remarkable success of the new heat exchanger in the M 4K system, AMCM plans to apply this same principle to enhance their recently announced M 8K system, which boasts an even larger build volume measuring 800 x 800 x 1200 mm.
“Conflux’s team of engineers have developed a unique capability to utilize additive manufacturing techniques to deliver superior heat transfer performance,” said Martin Bullemer, Managing Director of AMCM. “Embedding Conflux’s additive manufactured heat transfer technology enables us to continue pushing the boundaries of what our 3D metal printing machines can do.”
The landmark production order is a significant step forward in growing the additive manufacturing market and widening the applications of AM technology across industries, including aerospace, advanced manufacturing, motorsports, defense, and electronics.
Conflux Technology will display the argon gas heat exchanger at Formnext 2023 in hall 11.1/booth E45 in Frankfurt, Germany.
