Sailors aboard the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Texas prepare to depart Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after critical repairs and system upgrades. As the Navy works to enhance fleet readiness and extend the service life of submarines like Texas, APL researchers are partnering with the Naval Sea Systems Command to advance additive manufacturing processes — such as laser powder bed fusion — to deliver consistent, mission-ready components and reduce logistics delays across the fleet.

In cooperation with India’s leading additive manufacturing trade fair AMTECH Expo, Rapid.Tech 3D is organizing the German Pavilion at this year’s AMTECH Expo on December 1 and 2 in Hyderabad. This marks another milestone in the cooperation between the two trade fair organizers, which was agreed at Rapid.Tech 3D in May 2023.

India is one of the world’s emerging markets for additive technologies and impresses in this area with annual growth rates of more than 20 percent. “The AMTECH Expo offers the opportunity to get to know the potential of this market, to establish contacts and at the same time to demonstrate one’s own capabilities. Thanks to the cooperation with our Indian partner, we can offer an attractive service package with the German Pavilion and make a further concrete contribution to the transfer of expertise and technology between the AM communities of our two countries,” says Michael Kynast, Managing Director of Rapid.Tech 3D organizer Messe Erfurt GmbH.

Showcase of German AM industry and research

Together with Rapid.Tech 3D, leading German AM companies and research institutions will present themselves in the joint presentation. This includes FIT AG, an AM pioneer. The company has more than 25 years of experience in additive design and manufacturing. Likewise, the material developer for metallic 3D printing m4p material solutions GmbH and the technology specialist for 3D-printed electronics Neotech AMT GmbH will present their competencies. In addition, the Fraunhofer competence field Additive Manufacturing will provide an insight into its extensive research achievements for application-ready AM solutions. The speaker of the competence field, Dr. Bernhard Müller, is also one of the keynote speakers at this year’s AMTech Expo. Carl Fruth, founder and CEO of FIT AG, is among the speakers in the technical program.

3D Pioneers Challenge roadshow stops by at the German Pavillon

The final exhibits of this year’s international design competition 3D Pioneers Challenge illustrate the future innovations that will be made possible by AM. Following its initial presentation and the selection of the winners at Rapid.Tech 3D in Erfurt in May, the roadshow will also make a stop at the German Pavilion. In addition to bioceramics made from eggshells, algae cultivation in 3D-printed clay columns, or an e-car that “collects” more CO2 than it loses while driving, many innovations demonstrate the AM potential in the medical field. These include a custom-made prosthetic hand from Indian company Life and Limb that can achieve 14 grip patterns and is 75 percent lighter than conventional products. Representatives from the company will be on-site at the German Pavilion to oversee the roadshow.

Additive Area India at the 20th Rapid.Tech 3D

The cooperation between AMTECH Expo and Rapid.Tech 3D will continue in 2024 with a presentation of Indian AM companies in Erfurt. For the 20th edition of Rapid.Tech 3D from May 14 to 16 next year, Additive Area India will provide an insight into the AM competencies of business and science on the Asian subcontinent.

About AMTECH Expo

AMTECH Expo is India’s largest business networking platform for additive manufacturing technology. The platform enables its members to experience the 3D printing and additive manufacturing technology ecosystem, see state-of-the-art exhibits, learn at expert-led conferences, and network with industry to make an informed decision on where AM fits into their production process. https://amtechexpo.in/

About Rapid.Tech 3D

In two decades, Rapid.Tech 3D has developed into a leading specialist event for additive manufacturing (AM) in Central Europe. The heart of the event is the specialist congress, where international experts from industry and research present the latest developments and applications, particularly for the fields of medicine, mobility, aerospace, mechanical engineering and toolmaking, as well as chemistry and process engineering. In the accompanying trade exhibition, Rapid.Tech 3D will give a stage not only to established suppliers and users of industrial 3D printing technology and services, but also to start-ups and innovative research projects. https://www.rapidtech-3d.com/
