Ai Build announced a new version of AiMaker with AiCell Medium, the latest addition to its fleet of autonomous large scale 3D printers. This new solution is being demonstrated to the public with a live furniture 3D printing show at Future Lab, during the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019.
The first version of AiMaker was introduced to the market earlier this year with AiCell Small, Ai Build’s entry level turnkey 3D printing solution, in partnership with Kuka Robotics. Clients from design and construction industries are using the AiMaker to produce their large scale designs at their own facilities.
“KPF has been using the AiMaker to test the possibilities of robotic fabrication in architectural design,” said Mr. Cobus Bothma, Director of Applied Research at global architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF). “Collaborating with Ai Build enabled us to explore and concentrate on its capabilities, rather than spend that time programming robotics ourselves. Using an integrated software and hardware system allows us to focus on design and toolpath exploration, and rely on the software to automate the fabrication process.”
The new AiMaker with AiCell Medium has additional features such as real-time vision-based quality control and 4 times larger printing volume than AiCell Small. With a heated build plate of 120cm x 80cm and up to 140cm height, AiCell Medium is ideal for serial production of a large variety of products including furniture, architectural elements such as facade systems and interior panels, molds for the manufacturing of naval, automotive and aerospace high performance objects, sculptures, props for the entertainment and movie industries to name a few. Ai Build has already collaborated with world-class designers such as Assa Aschuach and Zaha Hadid Architects for 3D printed furniture pieces, and the sustainable fashion brand Bottletop for the world’s first 3D printed store.
“At Ai Build we are driven by quality and perfection,” commented Michail Desyllas, Co-founder and Creative Director. “Our solutions aim to change how manufacturing is performed, with automation and efficiency as key drivers. AiSync and AiMaker are built to give flexibility and support to creative manufacturers and engineers to express their designs fluidly and effortlessly.”
