Bahrain’s Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) has entered a strategic partnership with the global additive manufacturing firm Roboze to establish the kingdom’s first industrial facility dedicated to the 3D printing of high-performance super-polymers and composite components.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, highlighting the project’s strategic importance.
Key Features and Impact:
- Location and Sectors: The new plant will be built within ASRY’s industrial complex and is designed to serve high-demand industries, including marine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), oil and gas, energy, aerospace, and defense.
- Technology: The facility will integrate industrial-grade 3D printing, super-polymer processing, composite manufacturing, and fully digitalized, on-demand production workflows.
- Strategic Goal: The primary aim is to significantly reduce reliance on overseas suppliers by locally producing critical components. This will optimize spare-parts management, sharply cut equipment downtime, and enhance Bahrain’s manufacturing resilience.
- Enhanced Capabilities: This collaboration leverages ASRY’s existing industrial and maintenance capabilities with Roboze’s expertise in advanced additive manufacturing, a technology officially recognized by Bahrain as a “Strategic Technology of Interest.”
The advanced manufacturing center is expected to become a regional benchmark for high-performance polymer and composite production, strengthening Bahrain’s industrial competitiveness as a competitive hub in the Gulf.
