European Space Association launches first metal 3D printer to International Space Station

A pioneering European-made metal 3D printer is on its way to the International Space Station on the Cygnus NG-20 resupply mission which launched yesterday.

Epson and DBJ Invest in 3DEO Inc.

Development Bank of Japan Inc. (“DBJ”) and Seiko Epson Corporation (“Epson”) have invested in California-based 3DEO Inc. This investment is made by DBJ, which promotes “technological innovation and reorganization of industry,” and by Epson, which promotes “manufacturing innovation” under its Epson 25 Renewed Corporate Vision.

America Makes Announces Winners of Proliferation of AM Material Datasets Project Call Totaling $5.75M

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) and America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, announced the winners of the $5.75M Proliferation of Additively Manufactured (AM) Material Datasets, funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research and Engineering Manufacturing Technology Office (OSD(R&E)) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

General Atomics demos 3-D printed air-launched effects vehicle

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems said it successfully released a new air-launched effects platform made with additive manufacturing from the internal weapons bay of an MQ-20 Avenger unmanned system.

Siemens Announces Introduction of AM Special Interest Group

Siemens Digital Industries Software announces the introduction of the Siemens Additive Manufacturing Special Interest Group or AMSIG.

India’s Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital Unveils Bioengineering Lab With 3D Printing Technology 

Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital inaugurated a Medical 3D printing laboratory, ushering in a new era of high-precision surgeries, the hospital informed in a press release on Friday.

UW-Madison researchers first to 3D-print functional human brain tissue

A team of University of Wisconsin–Madison scientists has developed the first 3D-printed brain tissue that can grow and function like typical brain tissue. It’s an achievement with important implications for scientists studying the brain and working on treatments for a broad range of neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Supernova: Unveiling a New 3D Printing Company Spun Off from BCN3D’s VLM Business Unit 

BCN3D executed a carve-out of its Viscous Lithography Manufacturing (VLM) business unit into Supernova. This new company has been incorporated in the US and will have headquarters in both Austin (Texas, US) and Barcelona (Spain).

Parkwalk invests in Wayland Additive’s latest £4.2m funding round 

Parkwalk Advisors, a prominent investor specializing in ‘hard science’ companies that commercialize scientific discoveries from renowned UK research universities, is investing £2 million in Wayland Additive as part of a £4.2 million funding round.
