Additive Manufacturing Opportunities in the Middle East

UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are looking to implement Industry 4.0 as a part of their initiative to localise manufacturing in the Middle East and reduce their reliance on an oil based economy and invest in more sustainable technologies. Additive Manufacturing could play a key role for both these countries to achieve this vision.

To understand more about the current and future scenario of the AM industry in the Middle East, Aditya Chandavarkar, Co-Founder, Indian 3D Printing Network caught up with with Fahmi Al-Shawwa, CEO and Founder, Immensa Additive Manufacturing on this episode of AM Infocast.

Fahmi is one the leading advocates of AM in the Middle East and leads a team of more than 30 specialized Additive Manufacturing engineers across 3 offices in the GCC as a part of Immensa Additive Manufacturing, the region’s leading Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) company. Immensa recently was approved for additive manufacturing by KSA’s Ministry of Investments. This license represents the first of its kind to be issued in Saudi Arabia and is in line with ‘Vision2030’ and the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) which is giving importance to industry 4.0

On this podcast he talks about his journey since he first got introduced to AM, the challenges pertaining to adoption of the technology, the current scenario of AM industry in the Middle East. He also shares insight on how the roadmap looks for the technology in the region and his organisation.

About Fahmi Al-Shawwa

Fahmi Al-Shawwa, is the Founder and CEO of Immensa Additive Manufacturing, the region’s leading Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) company with operations across the Middle East. Fahmi is one the leading advocates of Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) and its beneficial uses for both industry and mechanical purposes. Fahmi completed multiple certifications in Additive Manufacturing. He leads a team of more than 30 specialized Additive Manufacturing engineers across 3 offices in the GCC. Since establishing Immensa in late 2016, Fahmi and his team have worked on a wide range of projects related to additive manufacturing and 3D Printing, including developing proprietary processes, and undergoing projects that have not been done before in the region. Fahmi is responsible for building an organization that is pan regional and delivered projects throughout the region including Kuwait, UAE, KSA, Jordan, Oman and Europe.  He is considered a subject matter expert on Additive Manufacturing application in Industry and is regularly invited to speak at international conferences. Prior to entering the 3D printing industry in 2014, Al-Shawwa spent 19 years in the region, managing and growing companies across various sectors. Al-Shawwa also serves as a board member and advisor for several companies in the region
