Metal additive manufacturing company Amaero International has won an order from automotive component manufacturer Samvardhana Motherson Reflectec for prototype mirror components.
SMR Automotive, which makes rear view mirrors and intelligent camera systems, has ordered the components for a new SUV vehicle build.
Amaero said: “Additive manufactured prototypes enable the product design to be evaluated for fitment, safety and performance before committing to the cost of production tooling.”
The order fits into Amaero’s strategy of focusing on prototypes and tooling for automotive and aerospace customers.
SMR formerly manufactured automotive components and mirrors at a factory in Adelaide.
Renamed SMR Technologies, the Lonsdale operation is now focused on the design, manufacture and distribution of high quality medical devices, renewables, mining, IoT and whitegoods sector products.
It provides development and commercialisation services for innovative new technologies and products.
SMR’s John Scharfenkamp said: “Being able to generate functional prototypes on short lead times by the additive manufacturing process allows us to complete the new product development process faster than conventional manufacturing methods.
