Printing and cutting specialist Mimaki has introduced a new desktop 3D printer, the Mimaki 3DFF-222. The new FFF 3D printer, co-branded with South Korean AM company Sindoh, is designed for production applications, such as functional prototypes, end-use jigs, signage and more.
The 3DFF-222 printer will become available at the end of next month and will expand Mimaki’s existing 3D printer portfolio, which also includes the 3DUJ-553, a full-color inkjet 3D printer. The printing company says it has leveraged its extensive expertise in 2D printing in the development of its 3D printing hardware.
In terms of features, the new desktop machine has a build volume of 210 x 200 x 195 mm and is compatible with PLA filaments. The machine also integrates a number of automated features, such as automatic filament supply, auto filament cutting and automatic bed leveling. A dedicated Mimaki 3D printing app gives users access to remote monitoring from their tablets or smartphones. Perhaps the most notable feature of the 3D printer, however, is its low noise emissions.
“Flexibility and ease-of-use are key features of the new desktop 3D printer,” said Bert Benckhuysen, Senior Product Manager at Mimaki Europe. “It’s been developed so that you can have it sitting in your office without disruption. Running at 45dB the noise levels are almost the same as a museum, and the footprint is small enough that it fits onto a desk, running off design iterations as they are needed with maximum convenience.
“With the PLA material you can also produce hard, robust models that don’t warp easily, so production parts such as jigs and moulds can be produced rapidly, helping manufacturers reduce lead times… And because it’s a Mimaki machine, it’s also extremely reliable.”
The 3DFF-222 3D printer is Mimaki’s first filament-based machine and signals the company’s continued commitment to expanding its position within the AM sector. It will be interesting to see the reception of the FFF 3D printer.
