Gucci has joined the ranks of luxury fashion houses embracing 3D printing, following brands like Moncler and Louis Vuitton. The Gucci Cub3d sneaker, a highly collectible release, features SLS 3D printed elements combined with the House’s Demetra material, blending cutting-edge technology with high fashion. While this sneaker is not intended for mass production, Gucci’s exploration of 3D printing signals a significant shift in the luxury footwear industry.
In a bold fusion of craftsmanship and innovation, the Gucci Cub3d’s standout feature is its 3D printed lattice sole, designed using the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technique. Inspired by polyhedral structures, the intricate design reflects the House’s avant-garde approach to contemporary luxury.
The sneaker’s upper is crafted primarily from Demetra, a sustainable material composed of 70% plant-based raw materials from renewable sources. The additional materials include 100% recycled polyester for outer layers and 88% recycled polyester for the internal structure, complemented by leather processed without metal or chrome tanning.
Gucci 3D Footwear Designer Matteo Burzio revealed on LinkedIn that the lattice pattern was designed using Rhino and Grasshopper before being integrated into the sneaker’s midsole. Multiple color variations debuted on the runway at Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2025 show, including a playful adaptation on slip-ons, hinting at possible future iterations.
With only 20 pairs available, the Gucci Cub3d is an ultra-exclusive collector’s item. The sneaker will be presented in dedicated packaging and unveiled at the Gucci Via Monte Napoleone flagship boutique from April 16-21.
