Zayed higher organization for people with determination (ZHO) signs on Spentys, an innovation leader in 3D orthopedic solutions based in Belgium at the Dubai Expo 2022 as their official partner to deploy 3D-printed orthoses manufacturing in the UAE.

Spentys developed the all-in-one 3D orthotic solution for clinically validated patient-specific orthoses and has over the years positioned itself as a time-efficient and cost-effective solution for improving orthopedic rehabilitation. ZHO is aimed at rehabilitating disabled people for inclusion into the community.

The collaboration between Spentys and ZHO serves a strategic role in the adoption of 3D digital workflow in orthotic manufacturing to enhance rehabilitation care for people of determination in the UAE.

This partnership is a spin-off of a three-month pilot test run (April-July, 2021) on the integration of 3D workflow to simplify and make efficient the manufacturing process of orthotic braces. As a result, a one-year contract has commenced (July 2021-July 2022) to increase the number of orthopedic technicians and staff who are competent with the use of the software. More so, this would upscale the number of prospective patients who would benefit from these devices from the initial 30 patients to 420.

The ZHO has remained at the forefront of disability reforms to ensure proper care and inclusion. They have instituted technical training for not only their staff but also, students who are people with disabilities (people of determination.)

His Excellency Abdullah Abdulalee Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, welcomed the signing of the contract with the specialized Belgian company Spentys, which provides a fully functional, clinically approved 3D scanning and printing platform, enabling healthcare providers to create high-quality patient-specific orthoses faster, and at lower cost. Zayed Higher Organization is working to keep pace with developments in all areas of care and rehabilitation for people of determination toward their empowerment and social inclusion. This includes the orthopedic industry, where the organization aims to save time and effort by using the latest global technologies to improve the lives of people of determination, those affected by accidents and the injured in general.

He added that the project is part of the steps to provide advanced technologies that support the organization’s 3D printing workshop for prosthetics and orthotics, which was inaugurated in the vocational rehabilitation workshops facility in the Bahia area in Abu Dhabi. He noted that the new technology will work to obtain accurate measurements, through specialized applications from Spentys that contribute to the accuracy of the product and reduce the time period for the manufacture of splints. This will increase the number of potential patients who will benefit from these devices through the project’s modern production methods, which are created with the highest standards of workmanship with optimized production methods, to create patient-specific splints in the shortest time possible.

“The Brussels authorities actively support and guide companies like Spentys in their development in Belgium and abroad. Spentys is a textbook example of entrepreneurship with a positive social impact. Its technology has a massive impact on people’s lives and, as Brusselers, we are proud of that,” said Pascal Smet, State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region for Foreign Trade.

“hub.brussels is proud to see how a Brussels-based company that has been enjoying our support for years is now expanding beyond our national borders and providing patients from all around the world with its expertise. They were among the winners of our first hub.awards in 2019. Spentys is unquestionably contributing to Brussels’ international influence in terms of innovation and impact.” said Isabelle Grippa, CEO of hub.brussels.

ZHO’s efforts to create an inclusive environment for all have indeed spurned key interest in rehabilitation technology. With the latest advancements in 3D technology, the future of orthotic bracing has been revolutionized. The engineering expertise that Spentys brings to the table enables ZHO to not only achieve more but become frontiers in the sector. The major advantageous leaps in this partnership are highlighted in a statement made by the CEO of Spenty, Louise-Philippe:

“We are very proud & honored to partner with ZHO and their highly qualified team. This partnership enables to bring meaningful innovation, combining medical & technological expertise to the patients of ZHO. It is the beginning of a great journey”

In addition to this, the pilot phase of this partnership showed great potential to increase patient satisfaction and provide evidence-based solutions that are simple and can be carried out without overhauling current systems.

Spentys is looking forward to serving more patients in the UAE with their expertise in 3D engineering. It will indeed be a time-efficient and cost-effective partnership for ZHO

Spentys will continue to support and co-develop the digital workflow with ZHO to accommodate their future goals for rehabilitation delivery. ZHO attests that this indeed is the solution that will fit their needs holistically in structure and delivery.

The medical 3D printing market is expected to reach an estimated  $4.5 billion by 2026 with a CAGR of 36% from 2020 to 2026.  Do check out this article where we focus on the Orthotics and Prosthetics market of UAE, 3D-printed orthoses and its growth prospects.
