During the inauguration PM Modi took a keen interest in the 3D printing section, including the installed 3D Printing systems and the wide variety of 3D printed parts. 

Tata Technologies has collaborated with the Govt of Karnataka, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, and the Chief Minister of Karnataka to transform 150 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into technology hubs by leveraging its manufacturing domain knowledge & product engineering expertise. Advanced technology labs have been established in these ITIs in additive manufacturing, automotive, manufacturing, electric vehicles, industrial robotics with arc welding, product design and verification, advanced manufacturing systems, internet of things, industrial automation, and advanced plumbing. PM Modi dedicated the upgraded ITIs to the nation at a function in Bengaluru.

In all, 23 short-term courses and 11 long-term courses have been introduced in these ITIs. Every year, 60,000 students in long-term courses and 120000 students in short-term courses are undergoing training in these ITIs.

“The 150 ITIs upgraded as technology hubs by Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) under the UDYOGA programme are set to be inaugurated in two weeks. Training of students in these institutes with advanced courses will commence from November 1,” Higher Education Minister C N Ashwathnarayan said after inspecting an ITI at Peenya on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The minister added admission to the advanced courses is in progress with approval accorded to the curriculum of trades, including Advanced CNC Machining, Basics of Design and Virtual Verification, Artisan Using Advanced Tools, Industrial Robotics and Digital Manufacturing, Manufacturing Process Control and Automation and Mechanic Electric Vehicle.

Dr Ashwathnarayan further explained that Junior Training Officers (JTOs) at each of these ITIs would be trained in these new technology areas over a period of three years. “The investment in infrastructure, equipment and training of JTOs will benefit students to study new courses. Around one lakh students from ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges will benefit from these,” he said.
