Paanduv Applications unveils the World’s first all-inclusive 3D computational modeling simulation software for Additive Manufacturing “AM PravaH v1.5”

Paanduv Applications, a leading technology company at the forefront of computational physics and artificial intelligence, introduced AM PravaH v1.5 on November 23, 2023. This significant release marks a watershed moment in the company’s dedication to advancing computational physics and software development.

A revolutionary step forward in additive manufacturing

Paanduv Applications proudly announces the release of AM PravaH v1.5, a state-of-the-art computational physics software specifically for Additive Manufacturing. This version signifies the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions with more accuracy, robustness, scalability, and user-friendliness. AM PravaH v1.5 aims to revolutionize the AM industry through early prediction of defects, knowledge of the process and its parameters, and
assistance in new alloy development. The software tackles critical aspects such as cycle time improvement, yield enhancement, and waste reduction, offering a comprehensive solution for manufacturers and researchers.

Founder of the company Adwaith Gupta adds that the AM PravaH development started in 2021 and we launched AM PravaH v1.0 in August 2022. We exposed this version to very limited people and IIT Hyderabad is one of them. Paanduv team is working rigorously to capture elaborate physics, user-friendliness, and robustness. We are now interacting with experts in the field, researchers, and manufacturers and taking their feedback to make a flawless product with a smooth simulation chain.

Virtual experimentation of the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process

Despite being around for four decades, Additive Manufacturing has only seen widespread adoption in the last ten years. Experiments can only expose you to the end result but LPBF being a complex process, monitoring and control during the process is important and only simulations can help you with that. Due to the cost, time, and resource-intensive nature of AM experimentation, researchers are leaning toward computational methodology to simulate the process to pick up the pace with industries. Despite a growing interest in virtual experimentation, there is currently no fully developed and comprehensive solution for Additive Manufacturing (AM) simulations. Paanduv Applications couples computational physics and data-driven modeling into AM PravaH, enabling virtual experimentation and iteration to achieve cost-effective, high-quality results. AM PravaH can be of help in three avenues, (i)  optimizing process parameters, (ii) reducing defects at the macroscale level, and (iii) developing new alloys.

A landmark launch event

To unveil this groundbreaking tool, Paanduv Applications hosted a virtual launch event on November 23, 2023. The event was a resounding success, attracting renowned personalities such as Prof. Suman Chakraborty from IIT Kharagpur, Dr. T Ram Prabhu from Defence R&D Organization (DRDO), Priyanka Nadig, an Additive Manufacturing Consultant & Mentor at NCAM, and Adwaith Gupta, Founder & CEO of Paanduv Applications. Prof. Suman shared insights into the current state of additive manufacturing modeling practices in India, pointing out a significant gap in the availability of complete solutions based on open-source software and the necessary customizations for Additive Manufacturing. Priyanka Nadig discussed how AM PravaH could contribute to digital cataloging strategies. Thereafter, the Founder of Paanduv Applications and the lead developer of AM PravaH Adwaith Gupta demonstrated the software, highlighted all the features, and showcased the stunning dark-themed graphical user interface (GUI) for the first time.

Simulating the entire process chain and more

The complete flow of the laser powder bed fusion process starts with spreading the particles using discrete element modeling, melt pool dynamics and defect capture using macroscale modeling, microstructure, and grain evolution analysis of solidified part using Monte-Carlo-Potts simulation, and integrating everything with AI considering the current needs and time crunch of the commercial AM market. The effect of vaporization in the process can not be neglected, hence it makes a significant difference in the accuracy of the melt pool analysis. Similarly, Fresnel reflections are commonly overlooked in simulations, yet they play a crucial role in enhancing our comprehensive understanding of melt pool dynamics. Consideration of Fresnel reflections can significantly contribute to a more accurate portrayal of the complex dynamics involved. In the future, Paanduv plans to consolidate all additive manufacturing processes, including LPBF, DED, FDM, and binder jetting, into a unified platform known as AM PravaH software.

Paanduv introduces the AM PravaH software featuring three integral modules: (i) Macroscale module, (ii) Microstructure module, and (iii) Artificial Intelligence module, enhancing versatility and precision in additive manufacturing processes.

AM PravaH excels at predicting defects by precisely capturing melt pool dynamics. Instabilities in the melt pool can result in various defects in the final part, including porosity, balling, lack of fusion, poor surface finish, partial melting of powder, high residual stresses, and undesired microstructures. By promptly notifying users of the likelihood of these defects at the outset, AM PravaH enables optimization of the process parameters for a superior outcome.

Common defects observed in the laser powder bed fusion process, include lack of fusion, porosity, spattering, keyhole-induced porosity, poor surface finish, and variations in grain structure (captured with diverse process parameters in AM PravaH).

The software is also equipped with the capability to simulate a multilayer system in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF).
