Modix introduces Extra Large MAMA 3D Printer for heavy duty print heads

Modix a global developer of large format 3D printers has announced the launch of its new extra-large 3D printer, with variable print volume between 1 x 1 x 1 meter to 2 x 5 x 1 meter (XYZ). The printer, Modix MAMA – which stands for “Modular Additive Manufacturing Assembler” – will provide a long desired XXL 3D printing solution for automotive, aviation, boating and other large goods industries.

Built for heavy duty 3D printing 

The new modular XXL MAMA 3D printer will target a growing need for 3D printed prototyping and final production uses. The 3D printer is especially designed to work with heavy duty print heads and high flow extruders, such as the Canadian Dyze Design’s Pulsar pellet extruder and the Typhoon high speed filament extruder. Printing several kilograms of plastic per hour is an essential capability of this new large printer.
Modix MAMA will be delivered to end customers as a self-assembly kit, a competitive factor reducing overall costs and simplified logistics. It also allows flexibility in selecting the installation location. Pricing will be announced during 2020 Q1, planned to meet the budget of Start-ups and SME’s.

Changing the automotive and aviation landscape

Modix is headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel. It counts Boeing, Amazon Robotics and GE in its corporate clients, and has work with these and start-ups to gain “a strong understanding of their needs,” which is encapsulated in the MAMA. Shachar Gafni, Modix CEO, comments,  “A frequent request is for a very large 3D printer that will allow printing of very large models in one piece. Automotive and aviation industries are undergoing transformations in both design and production.”

The company believes that 3D printing has the capability to completely revolutionize the appearance of vehicles and other modes of transport. “With the introduction of new high-end materials,” Gafni adds, “we see new possibilities for the actual production of final parts.”

The self assembly approach of the Modix MAMA is something company CCO John Van EL believes end customers and reseller network are adapting to well. Ultimately, Van EL explains, “A self assembly approach allows our added value resellers to grow out of the readymade delivery business concept, providing additional tailoring value and profit.”

During Formnext, Modix presented additional new products including: The 1.2 meter tall- Modix 120Z, the Very-Wide Modix 180X and the Modix Meter with print volume of 1.0×1.0X0.6 Meter. Each of these machine are around the $10,000 price range.
