MetShape GmbH, headquartered in Pforzheim, Germany, is specialized in manufacturing of indirectly 3D printed metallic components using the Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing (LMM) Technology. In June 2021, MetShape received seed financing from AM Ventures, the leading venture capitalist in additive manufacturing. The financing round will enable investments in new equipment, expansion of marketing and sales measures as well as further staff growth.

Metal additive manufacturing in new dimensions
MetShape spun out of Pforzheim University as a technology start-up in 2019 and received one year of start-up funding from
the state of Baden-Württemberg. Since its spin-off two years ago, MetShape has established itself in the broad portfolio of
additive manufacturing technologies with the new, innovative LMM technology and has already successfully implemented
many customer applications. “With our holistic approach and know-how of the entire LMM process chain, we provide our
customers the highest flexibility in developing and manufacturing their applications,” says Dr. Andreas Baum, CEO and cofounder of MetShape.

Johann Oberhofer, Managing Partner of AM Ventures, expects two-step sinter-based additive manufacturing technologies to become increasingly important for the production of larger quantities of metal components: “The key to mastering indirect AM processes is to control the oven-based sintering processes after the green part has been 3D printed. We are convinced that the team around Dr. Andreas Baum combines the necessary competences and has extensive know-how for the development and serial production of high-quality applications.”

Technology expansion & growth plans
“With the further development of the company, we are increasing customer benefits to the extent that we are evolving from
a LMM pioneer to a competent partner for all relevant AM technologies for the production of precise small and micro
components,” states Dr. Andreas Baum. By expanding its competence profile, MetShape offers its customers not only
comprehensive technology consulting but also the rapid realization of economic advantages with highest flexibility in terms
of variants, complexity, geometry changes and quantities.

Strong partnerships & cooperative development projects
The company works closely with the engineering company Incus GmbH and Pforzheim University on the further development
of LMM technology. Thus, MetShape is always at the cutting edge of technology being able to offer its customers new material
developments and cooperation projects.
