Mapal has developed 3D-printed bell tools with brazed PCD inserts, which helps reduce the weight of the tools without affecting their strength and integrity.

Produced using the selective laser melting process, the tools feature a modified internal design of a honeycomb structure that makes them 30% lighter. Optimized cooling channels offer efficient delivery of cutting fluid to the cutting area.

The tool is 3D-printed, then machined conventionally. PCD inserts then are brazed in place and cut to shape using a laser. Total machining time has been reduced by 50%.
