“For Goa to become an IT and electronic hub, drone policy was needed. Drones will be used for coastal security and for surveillance wherever required. This policy will help us generate employment opportunities in the state,” Sawant said while addressing the gathering after launching the policy. Khaunte said the objective of the Goa Drone Policy 2022 is to leverage drone technology for better governance, promotion of innovation and generation of employment.
“This policy broadly covers the support infrastructure we need from the government and mechanisms we put in place to encourage adoption of this technology by both, government and private enterprises,” the IT Minister said.
Elaborating on the Additive Manufacturing Hub, which is commonly known as 3D printing, the IT Minister said that it will encourage collaboration between academia, government and industry for design, development and deployment of 3D printing.
Khaunte said government departments like the electricity, public works etc can bring down the cost of parts by 3D printing wherever applicable instead of procuring them through regular channels and holding a large inventory.
“Local companies in Goa that are currently dependent on companies from Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru will be benefitted from the local availability of services. It will aid young entrepreneurs and start-ups to prototype their models,” he said.
The state government on Monday also launched the ‘Goa Drone Policy 2022’, which is aimed at promoting drone technology, manufacturing, sustainable innovation, generating employment and providing value-added services in the state. Goa is the third state in the country to have its own drone policy. Through this policy, the government aims to promote drone design, manufacturing, testing and maintenance facilities in the state. The government has said that it will strive to build institutional and academic capacity on drone technology within the state.
Chairman of Info Tech Corporation Dr. Chandrakant Shetye was also present at the event.
