EOS GmbH has expanded its ‘Premium’ and ‘Core’ materials portfolio for metal Additive Manufacturing. The company has introduced one new Premium and seven new Core metal materials for the EOS M 290, EOS M 300-4 and EOS M 400-4 Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machines.

Hanna Pirkkalainen, Product Manager Metal Materials at EOS, stated, “With more companies crossing the border from prototyping to serial production based on Additive Manufacturing, the demand for reliable data for materials and built parts is growing. For this, EOS introduced Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) in 2019 for materials and processes to classify technological maturity levels for easy customer orientation.”

She explained, “Depending on specific application requirements, customers can choose between Core materials (TRL 3 and 5) with a major focus on early market access to new materials, and Premium materials (TRL 7-9) which attach particular importance to repeatable part quality essential in serial production.”

For the Premium portfolio, EOS has added EOS ToolSteel 1.2709, an ultra-high strength and hardness maraging steel with TRL 7. For its Core portfolio, the company has added a new 60 µm process developed for EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg on the EOS M 290 with TRL 3; a new 80 µm process for EOS Titanium Ti64 Grades 5 and 23 on the EOS M 290 and EOS M 400-4; a 40 µm process for EOS NickelAlloy IN718 and EOS MaragingSteel MS1 on the EOS M 300-4 with TRL 3; and a further 50 µm process for EOS MaragingSteel MS1 on the EOS M 300-4 with TRL 3.
