Additive Manufacturing Industry News review by AM Chronicle from last week includes installation of Xerox Elem 3D printer by Vertex, 3D printed statute of Maa Saraswati developed by COE, Kolkata, Desktop Metal Envision rebranded as Etec and research on converting filaments in facemask, Micro WAAM machine and production of wind turbine blades by ORNL.

Vertex installs Xerox ElemX 3D metal printer

Xerox Elem Additive Solutions and industrial manufacturer, Vertex Manufacturing – A PrinterPrezz Company, have formalized an agreement to add the Xerox ElemX 3D metal printer to Vertex’s Cincinnati facility and begin offering contract manufacturing services with Xerox’s liquid metal capabilities.

3D Printed Maa Saraswati statue developed by COE, Kolkata

Webel-Fujisoft-Vara Centre of Excellence (CoE), Kolkata, an initiative of the Government of West Bengal in association with the Department of Information Technology & Electronics and Directorate of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of West Bengal, recently unveiled a 3D Printed Maa Saraswati statue which was completely crafted and printed in the laboratory of the CoE, through Additive Manufacturing. This symbolic project highlights the specific advantages of Additive Industrial and its application in the Indian manufacturing industry.

Desktop Metal Envisiontec rebranded as Etec

Desktop Metal has announced its rebranding of Envisiontec as Etec a year-on from its acquisition of the resin-based polymer 3D printing company.

Collins Aerospace Expands Additive Manufacturing capability with SLM NXG Xll 600

Collins Aerospace had acquired an NXG Xll 600 Additive Manufacturing system by SLM Solutions for its facility in West Des Moines, Iowa. The facility is a world leader in the design and production of engine nozzles and is now bringing that manufacturing expertise to additive. The new printer will help the company produce additively manufactured aerospace parts faster.

Headmade Materials secures EUR 8.25m funding from AM Ventures and the European Innovation Council

Headmade Materials, the inventor of the highly productive metal 3D printing process ColdMetalFusion (‘Metal SLS’), has closed a €2.5m Series A financing round with additive manufacturing specialist AM Ventures as lead investor.

Researchers developed new Micro WAAM method for smaller metal parts

In a recent study published in the journal Additive Manufacturing Letters researchers form  NOVA School of Science and Technology, Portugal developed a Micro WAAM method for smaller metal parts. The research will help to reduce the cost of the 3D printing metal parts.

GE Aviation invests in five M Line systems

GE Aviation has released the news to invest in five M line system, the technology will help to improve the additive manufacturing division of the company and also ensure that production capacity in improved.

ORNL Manufacturing uses 3D Printing for Production of Wind Turbine Blades

Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers (ORNL) recently used large-scale additive manufacturing with metal to produce a full-strength steel component for a wind turbine, proving the technique as a viable alternative to conventional welding approaches.

Research demonstrated potential of EHLA in alloy development

Researchers from RWTH Aachen University’s RWTH Aachen Chair for Digital Additive Production (DAP) studied the viability of employing Extreme High-Speed Laser Material Deposition Process (EHLA) for effectively screening and developing novel alloys for Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB).

Researchers developed technology to convert Facemasks into filament

The researchers at University of Bristol developed technology to convert Recycled Facemasks into 3D printer filament. The solution will help to address the environmental issues that arise due to improper disposal of mask.
