Directed Energy Deposition or commonly known as DED is one of the seven main technologies of AM. DED forms 3D objects by melting material as it is being deposited using focussed thermal energy like laser, electron beam or plasma arc. DED is a very versatile process and is increasingly being used in hybrid manufacturing for multiple applications.

In this Episode of AM Infocast with Yashwanth Bandari, we do a deep dive into the world of DED. Yashwanth defines the main DED processes, shares insights on current status of these processes, throws light on challenges which are hampering widespread usage of this technology and shares a road map for this technology.
